Donelson Architecture
After a bedroom and office addition nearly 15 years ago, the owners of this 1985 mountain style home were ready to tackle a major exterior update. Yearly maintenance on the cedar siding and leaky wood windows was becoming costly and more complicated each year. Maintenance on the home was difficult since it was perched on the side of the mesa and the three-story tall street-side façade.
The architect transformed the dated, often called "mine shaft" home to mountain contemporary. In addition to the improved curb appeal the house was updated with low-maintenance and energy efficient materials.
To better define the space and to welcome their guests, a new entry was added. Gabled roofs and timber trusses also helped to alleviate the “mine shaft” feel of the original architecture. The owners are thrilled the drafty old green house is gone and never again do they have to wrap themselves in a blanket while eating dinner.
